New Music Friday

This Friday we check out new singles, music videos and albums by LA Priest, Jessica Pratt, Khruangbin, Fat While Family and more.

LA Priest announced a new EP “La Fusion” coming May 3rd on Domino records and released a new single called “City Warm Heart” that captures the yearning for the city bustle when you’re away in nature. “La Fusion” was written towards the end of Sam Eastgate’s stay in the jungle of Costa Rica, where he also created the recent album “Fasa Luna”. Directed by Joseph Bird Jr., the videoclip for the new single is featuring the artist in an evergreen lush forest, a mise-en-scène of what is “a bit of my recording set up and the way I record a song,” he explained. “This video is really exactly what I did while making this song, recreated as well as I could, so it’s more of an honest video than my usual sort of thing.”

We can dive into another lush and verdant world in Jessica Pratt‘s new video for the new single “World On a String”, directed by Kate Bollinger and edited by Jessica herself. Vintage effects such as double exposure and fish eye camera, create a dreamy setting in Elysian Park, where Jessica Pratt is joined by a group of flower people for a procession and a picnic. This perfectly complements the escapist, timeless esthetics and spirit of her cosmic retro folk.

On a closer look, the illustrious cast turns out to be a who is who of the LA music scene featuring Pedrum Siadatian, Josh Da Cosa, Jackson MacIntosh, Allison Goldfarb and more. Jessica Pratt’s lyrics, “I want to be the sunlight of the century / I want to be a vestige of our senses free“, resonate with the ethereal ambiance of the video.

Today is the release day of Khruangbin‘s fourth studio album “A La Sala” and worldwide there are 7 different available vinyl cover art versions. Inspired by René Magritte, the cover features a window frame showing different landscapes outside – travel photos taken by the band’s guitarist Marko.

The British band Fat White Family, formed in a squat in 2011 and known for their eclectic style blending elements of post-punk, rock & roll and psychedelic music, eccentric lyrics and unconventional performances, have a new album coming up on April 26th on Domino called “Forgiveness Is Yours” that showcases a promising new artistic direction, a groovy blend of disco, yacht rock, 80s synth pop and Middle Eastern guitar riffs.

It’s also Bandcamp Friday. The new album by Chastity Belt “Live Laugh Love” was released today and you can listen to it now Live Laugh Love by Chastity Belt
